New bromotriazine has been successfully developed

In recent days, a research team led by Professor Kong Qingchi from the China University of Fuels (East China) has successfully developed a new production process for brominated triazine, specifically tris(tribromobenzene-oxygen-based)-cyanurate. This innovation aims to address several challenges found in traditional methods. Conventional approaches typically rely on tribromophenol, cyanuric chloride, and sodium hydrogen oxyhydroxide as raw materials. However, tribromophenol is known for its hygroscopic nature and sublimation properties, making it difficult to dry efficiently. As a result, significant losses occur during the drying phase, increasing both the cost and complexity of the overall production.

To overcome these limitations, the newly developed technology eliminates the need for tribromophenol by directly reacting phenol with cyanuric chloride to form tris(phenoxy-based)-cyanurate. This approach avoids the synthesis, purification, and drying steps that are traditionally required for tribromophenol, significantly streamlining the entire process. The reaction takes place entirely within a single reactor, reducing energy consumption and minimizing operational steps. The process includes bromination, washing, distillation, crystallization, centrifugation, and drying, all of which are carried out in a controlled environment to ensure product quality and efficiency.

The final product, tris(tribromophenoxy-oxygen-based)-cyanuric ester, is a highly effective flame retardant with excellent thermal stability and fire resistance. It has attracted considerable attention from researchers both domestically and internationally due to its potential applications in various industries, including plastics, textiles, and construction materials. With this new method, the production of such flame retardants becomes more sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly, marking a significant advancement in the field of chemical engineering and material science.
