Why the road to high-efficiency motor market expansion is frequently blocked

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, recently launched the National Motor Energy Efficiency Improvement Plan (2013-2015). This initiative aims to boost market demand for high-efficiency motors and related equipment by nearly 100 billion yuan. Despite this effort, the adoption of high-efficiency motors remains limited due to their high cost and an unfavourable market environment. The promotion of energy-efficient motors in China dates back to 2008, when motor system energy conservation was recognized as one of the top ten national energy-saving projects. In 2009, the use of high-efficiency and ultra-high-efficiency motors was included in the Huimin project. A notice issued in that same year confirmed the inclusion of high-efficiency motors in both energy-saving programs and the Huimin initiative, drawing significant attention from the market. Five years have passed since the country began promoting high-efficiency motors, yet they are still not fully integrated into the market. Experts estimate that these motors can save between 1.3 and 2.3 trillion kWh of electricity annually—equivalent to the output of three Three Gorges Dams. However, despite such potential, many users remain unaware or hesitant to adopt them. One major reason is the high cost of production, which leads to fewer manufacturers and limited market availability. As a result, end-users often lack sufficient knowledge about the benefits of high-efficiency motors. Wu Ruiyang, General Manager of Fujian Hesheng Energy-saving Technology Co., Ltd., explained that the company's products are mainly sold through machinery and equipment suppliers, who account for 80% of sales. Therefore, the acceptance of high-efficiency motors largely depends on the attitude of these suppliers. High-efficiency motors typically cost 20% more than standard models, with some even exceeding 50% in price. This makes it difficult for many investors to see immediate financial benefits, leading to the perception that “energy saving doesn’t mean saving money.” Motors are often used as supporting components in systems like fans, pumps, and compressors. Most mechanical equipment suppliers do not directly use these motors, but rather integrate them into larger systems. Zhou Shou Lian, Chief Engineer at Beijing Bijie Electric Plant, noted that although high-efficiency motors are slightly more expensive, their cost can be offset within 4,000 to 5,000 hours of operation. However, short-term thinking among businesses often leads them to prioritize low costs over long-term efficiency gains. Government efforts to promote high-efficiency motors have been ongoing, but more needs to be done. In a competitive market, companies tend to focus on reducing costs rather than investing in efficiency. This creates a challenge for high-efficiency motors to reach downstream users effectively. To address this, government policies must be enforced more strictly, and research institutions should play a key role in promoting these technologies. Additionally, experts emphasize the need to educate consumers on how to properly select and use high-efficiency motors. First, the motor’s speed must match the requirements of the entire system. High-efficiency motors usually operate at higher speeds, and increasing speed by 2% can lead to an 8% rise in power consumption, potentially negating the expected energy savings. Second, selecting the right motor size is crucial. The efficiency of a motor remains stable near its rated power, but drops rapidly if the load is below 50%. An oversized motor not only increases costs but also reduces the power factor, leading to inefficiencies. In conclusion, while high-efficiency motors offer significant energy and cost savings, their widespread adoption requires better awareness, stronger policy support, and proper application techniques.

Toilet Seat

A toilet seat is a component that is installed over the toilet bowl, also known as the seat for the person sitting on the toilet. Its main function is to provide a comfortable and hygienic environment for use. Here are some details about the common toilet seat cover:

  1. Comfort: toilet seats are usually designed with the user's comfort in mind, with materials and shapes carefully selected and designed to ensure comfort during use.
  2. Hygienic: Toilet lids help to keep the toilet hygienic by preventing the inside of the toilet from coming into direct contact with airborne contaminants such as dust and bacteria. Additionally, covering the toilet lid also reduces the spread of odours created when flushing.
  3. Durability: Toilet lids are usually made of durable and easy-to-clean materials that can withstand the friction of daily use and cleaning agents and are not easily damaged.
  4. Aesthetics: The design of the toilet seat also takes into account the overall aesthetics of the bathroom, and its colour, shape and style are usually in harmony with the toilet and the overall style of the bathroom.

In addition to the above basic functions, some toilet seat also has a special design, such as with a slow-down function of the toilet seat, you can avoid the noise generated by the sudden closure of the toilet seat; or with an antibacterial coating of the toilet seat, you can effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria.

In short, although ordinary toilet seat seems simple, it plays an important role in daily life, providing convenience and comfort for our life.
