Chengdu Biology Reveals Microbiological Mechanism of Temperature-regulated Anaerobic Fermentation of Methane

The efficiency of anaerobic pig manure fermentation for producing methane is closely related to the microbial community in the fermentation system. Temperature is one of the important factors affecting fermentation efficiency. It is particularly important to understand the temperature-regulated microbiological mechanism of fermentative methanogenesis.

PhD student Lin Qiang, a researcher at the Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Xiangzhen, conducted an in-depth and systematic study of the microbiological mechanism of temperature regulation in the anaerobic pig manure fermentation methanogenesis system, revealing that the temperature is mainly controlled by the regulation of microbial diversity, total activity, and The network structure of microbial interactions affects the efficiency of methane fermentation. The concept of functional orderliness was first proposed for use in methanogenic systems to characterize the tendency of microbial community functions to focus on key metabolic processes at optimal temperatures in order to increase systemic fermentation efficiency. The study also revealed the relationship between temperature niches, microbial activity and temperature in different bacterial communities. It also has theoretical significance for the formulation of methane fermentation bactericides and the development of microbial products, ie, the compounding and biological regulation of fermentative microbial agents should be considered.
