Guohua Investment has made significant strides in its international expansion, particularly in the renewable energy sector. Recently, the company acquired a 75% stake in the Umus Wind Farm, marking a major milestone in its global strategy. Alongside the Maslow project, Guohua now holds two key overseas wind power developments, with a combined installed capacity exceeding 300,000 kilowatts. This achievement positions Guohua as the leading domestic player in overseas wind energy projects.
On February 29, China Shenhua Group announced that its subsidiary, China State Investment Corporation, successfully acquired a 75% ownership in a U.S. wind farm located in Australia. This move further solidifies Shenhua’s commitment to expanding its presence in clean energy abroad.
Earlier, on February 28, Guohua Investment and Tashui Hydropower Co. of Australia signed an agreement in Beijing for the equity transaction of the Urumqis Wind Farms. This deal was one of the largest cross-border wind power mergers at the time and marked the first overseas project for Shenhua's new energy division.
Under the agreement, Guohua Investment and Shenhua International Hong Kong established Shenhua Australia Clean Energy Holding Co., Ltd. The company then partnered with Tashui Hydropower to create Australian U.S. Wind Power Holding Co., Ltd., which is responsible for managing the U.S. wind farms. The total capacity under management is 139.75 million kilowatts.
Following the successful acquisition of Umus Wind Farm, on September 12, Guohua Investment and Tasman Power Company of Australia held a signing ceremony in Beijing for the Maslow wind power project. According to the terms, Guohua will own 75% of the Maslow project, representing another key step in Shenhua’s “going global†strategy.
As part of the agreement, Shenhua Australia Clean Energy Holding Co., Ltd. — a joint venture between Guohua Investment and Shenhua Hong Kong — collaborated with Tashui Hydropower to set up Maslow Wind Power Holdings Co., Ltd. The Maslow wind farm is located in the northeastern region of Tasmania, where strong wind resources make it an ideal site. Construction began in late 2011, with completion expected by June 2013. Once operational, Guohua’s total wind power capacity in Australia will reach 307,800 kilowatts, including 139.75 million kilowatts from the U.S. wind farms and 168,000 kilowatts from Maslow.
The acquisition of these projects is just the beginning of Guohua’s global expansion. Effective project management, operational efficiency, and maximizing returns are essential to building long-term value and enhancing the company’s international reputation. Expanding cooperation on overseas projects remains the ultimate goal.
To ensure smooth operations and learn from Australia’s advanced management practices, Guohua quickly formed a dedicated team after the acquisition. They developed the Provisional Regulations on the Management of Overseas Enterprises, covering areas such as basic enterprise management, reporting systems, emergency protocols, financial operations, communication, and personnel management. Additional rules were introduced regarding cost control and human resource management.
Since the acquisition, the management structure of Shenhua Australia Clean Energy Holding Co., Ltd. has been continuously improved. Key departments, including production, finance, asset management, HR, and general administration, have been properly established. Issues related to data integration and reporting have been resolved, and critical documents such as board records, monthly reports, quarterly business analyses, and property registration have been completed. This marks a solid foundation for future growth and success in the global market.
