Between 2000 and 2010, coal production in the world’s top five coal producers increased significantly. During this period, global coal production rose by 66%, with an annual output of 5 billion tons exceeding 8 billion tons. However, during this period, the top five countries in the world, China, the United States, India, Australia and Indonesia, accounted for 98% of the total output of coal. The growth of coal in other countries accounted for only 7%.
