
A new milestone in renewable energy has been reached in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. The "Photovoltaic Energy Storage Ground Source Heat Pump Integrated Microgrid Demonstration Park," the first integrated thermal and energy storage project in the region, recently began operation. The park is set to install photovoltaic panels before the end of this year, marking a significant step forward in sustainable urban development.
Located in the High-tech Development Zone of Shijiazhuang, this demonstration park is the first of its kind to combine solar power, energy storage, and ground-source heat pump systems into a single microgrid. With an investment exceeding 10 million yuan, the project was expected to be completed by the end of 2013. Since its launch, the park has been utilizing rooftop photovoltaic modules to generate electricity, meeting daily office and lighting needs while storing surplus energy for use during cloudy days or at night.
This innovative approach also integrates ground-source heat pump technology into the microgrid for the first time. By tapping into geothermal energy, the park can efficiently regulate indoor temperatures, reducing reliance on traditional heating and cooling systems. The park generates approximately 330,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The ground-source heat pump system alone saves about 620,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.
In terms of environmental impact, the project significantly reduces emissions: around 304 tons of carbon dioxide, 9.5 tons of sulfur dioxide, and 0.18 tons of nitrogen dioxide are cut annually. It also saves the equivalent of 104.6 tons of standard coal. This project not only serves as a model for green energy solutions but also highlights China’s growing commitment to clean and sustainable technologies.
