When a cone crusher is used to crush large materials, the motor drives the rotation through a pulley or coupling, which then transfers the motion to the drive shaft and the crushing cone via an eccentric sleeve. As a result, the crushing cone moves closer to the fixed surface of the adjustable sleeve, allowing the ore to be continuously subjected to impact, compression, and bending within the crushing chamber, thus achieving effective size reduction. The motor transmits rotational force to the eccentric sleeve through a bevel gear, causing the crushing cone to rotate. During this process, the crushing cone alternately approaches and moves away from the fixed cone, enabling continuous crushing and material discharge.
Under the influence of excitation forces, the inner crushing cone performs a circular motion around the central axis of the machine. It comes into contact with the outer cone and then separates from it, ensuring efficient material processing. The material to be crushed is initially in a loose state, forming a loosely packed layer inside the crushing chamber. The external excitation causes the inner cone to move toward the inner surface of the outer cone, initiating dynamic impact. According to wave theory, the stress wave propagates through the loose material layer, generating maximum physical movement, accompanied by particle compaction, elastic and inelastic deformation, and damage to sharp corners. This phase can be considered as the compaction stage, during which the energy transmitted to the material is relatively low, resulting in minimal work done on the material. However, as the stress wave increases, the compaction level and damage to the particles also increase.
Once the material is sufficiently compacted, the inner crushing cone applies a strong shock wave to the material layer, subjecting the particles to high stress. Under this condition, significant comminution occurs, leading to further size reduction.
