When a cone crusher is used to crush large-scale materials, the motor drives the rotation of the machine through a pulley or coupling. This motion is transferred to the drive shaft and the crushing cone via an eccentric sleeve. As a result, the crushing cone moves closer to the fixed crushing wall on the adjusting sleeve, allowing the material to be continuously subjected to impact, compression, and bending within the crushing chamber, ultimately achieving effective size reduction. The motor also powers the eccentric sleeve through a bevel gear, causing the crushing cone to rotate. During operation, the crushing cone alternately approaches and moves away from the fixed cone, enabling continuous crushing and discharge of the material.
Under the influence of the excitation force, the inner crushing cone performs a circular motion around the central axis of the machine. It comes into contact with the outer crushing cone and then separates from it, ensuring efficient material processing. The material entering the crushing chamber is in a loose state, forming a layer with some degree of looseness. The external excitation causes the inner cone to move toward the inner surface of the outer cone, initiating dynamic impact. According to wave theory, stress waves act on the loose material layer, generating maximum physical motion, accompanied by particle compaction, elastic and inelastic deformation, and damage to sharp corners. This phase is considered the compaction stage, during which the energy transferred to the material layer is limited, resulting in a small area on the δ-ε curve. As the stress wave increases, the compaction level and corner damage also rise.
Once the material reaches a certain level of compaction—after the gap is fully closed—the inner crushing cone applies a strong vibration shock wave to the material layer. Under this high-stress condition, significant comminution occurs, leading to fine particle breakage.
