Waterproof material selection

The principle of setting the waterproof layer in the system is to be as close as possible to the source of water or moisture, that is, to the water surface; the feasibility and convenience of construction should also be considered. Most of the waterproofing layer used in architectural ceramic veneer systems is laid between the leveling layer and the ceramic adhesive layer (position 1 in the waterproof layer in Figure 4.0.1), so the waterproof coating selected must be very similar to the leveling layer and the adhesive. Good compatibility is mainly reflected in the sufficient and durable tensile adhesive strength between each other. Too high elongation at break does not have a better effect in this system, and UV treatment is not required to be considered in this system at all.

There are many types of architectural ceramic veneer systems that need to be considered for waterproofing. In addition to the wide variety of geometries, there are also a variety of water supply and drainage pipes and floor drains that penetrate the waterproof/moisture barrier. When selecting a waterproof coating, it should be based on the detailed design of the detailed structure and refer to the paint manufacturer's technical specifications. In addition to considering the physical and mechanical properties of the waterproof coating itself, the special circumstances of the specific project should be considered in detail. For example, in the long-term water-immersed parts such as swimming pools, in addition to the basic performance of waterproof coatings, it should also be considered that the waterproof coatings should not swell when exposed to long-term moisture. Because once swelling occurs, local waterproofing failure may occur under the action of water pressure or other external force.

The total coating thickness of the waterproof coating must meet the design requirements and should refer to the paint manufacturer's technical specifications. Where the deformation of the base layer is large, the service environment is frequently vibrated, and the leveling layer is in danger of cracking, the waterproof coating should use polyester mesh cloth or alkali-resistant glass fiber mesh cloth as the carcass reinforcement material.
