Membrane electrode is the core component of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), which directly affects the battery output performance and reaction efficiency, and develops a low platinum (Pt) loading and high reaction efficiency CCM (catalyst prepared on membrane) type thin catalytic layer membrane Electrodes are an important technology direction for the development of proton exchange membrane fuel cells.

The research group developed the preparation process of CCM membrane electrode by electrostatic spraying, which can effectively reduce the platinum loading while improving the efficiency of the catalyst layer. A short fuel cell stack was assembled using a membrane electrode prepared by an electrostatic spray process. The amount of platinum in the control electrode was set to 0.6 mg/cm2. The test results showed that the reactor performance and commercialization of a conventional GDE (catalytic layer preparation on a diffusion layer) type electrode The stack (platinum load 1 mg/cm?) is quite even better. "H-Air" (H2/Air) fuel cell average performance at atmospheric pressure 1 A/cm2 current density reaches 0.67 volts, pressurization reaches 0.70 volts, equivalent to international advanced level; at 1.5 A/cm? current density peak power At the time of output, the amount of platinum in the stack was 0.65 g/kW, which was about 40% lower than at the end of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period.

In addition, the research group is studying the use of TiO2 (titanium dioxide) nanotube ordered arrays to develop membrane electrodes with ordered structures. Ordered electrode structures are an important research direction for the development of ultra-low platinum membrane electrodes.
