II. Principles for Preventing Occupational Hazards in Confined Spaces

To ensure worker safety, it is essential to follow strict safety protocols. First, continuous monitoring of gas levels—especially oxygen and toxic gases—should be conducted before and during work. Second, proper ventilation must be established prior to entering the space to reduce the risk of gas accumulation. Third, appropriate emergency equipment and rescue tools should be available on-site at all times. Workers must also be trained in emergency response procedures.

III. Measures for Dealing with Confined Space Hazards

Before entering a confined space, workers must obtain approval from the site supervisor and maintain communication with the attendant. If the environment cannot be ventilated or if the condition of the space is unknown, workers should wear suitable respiratory protection. In the event of an accident such as suffocation or poisoning, rescuers must use protective gear like air-purifying masks, oxygen masks, or hose-fed breathing apparatus. They should only enter the space after ensuring their own safety, quickly move the affected person to an open area, and provide immediate medical assistance. It is crucial not to rush into the confined space without proper preparation, as this can lead to additional casualties.
